It’s the night before preschool, and a little boy named Billy is so nervous he can’t fall asleep. The friends he makes the next day at school give him a reason not to sleep the next night, either: he’s too excited about going back! It’s the first day of school! Join the kids as they prepare for kindergarten, packing school supplies, posing for pictures, and the hardest part of all—saying good-bye to Mom and Dad. But it won’t be hard once they discover how fun kindergarten is! Get ready for a major milestone: kindergarten graduation! Of course, there’s a lot of preparation the night before as kids prepare for the momentous occasion. It’s the night before the Big Day—first grade. Penny is excited to start the year with her best friend right beside her in the same classroom. It’s the night before a young boy’s first day of second grade, and he’s excited. He’s spent all summer reading and preparing for the year ahead, and he can’t wait to learn more about what fun surprises second grade has to offer.

Perfect book for the night before the first day of preschool
My daughter loved this book! It helped her feel excited for the first day of school instead of nervous! Saving it to read to my son as well!

    Fun intro to preschool
This book is such a fun intro to preschool! My kids actually love all of the books in this “collection”. They are fun to read; they have a great rhythm to them while making new and sometimes nervous situations easier for their little minds to digest. The common thread of the books even adds to the easing of the nerves for a new experience to come!

    Helped with first day jitters
My 4 year old seemed very nervous about starting pre-K. We read this book every night for a few days leading up to the first day of school and it seemed to help a lot! It helped encourage him to talk about his fears and also all the fun things he could look forward to doing. Highly recommend! We have a couple of the holiday ones from this author as well which led us to purchasing this one.

Good for starting conversation about school anxiety…and fun rhymes/illustrations
Great fun — extra fun for those who know the “twas the night before Christmas” story! This actually gets 4.5 stars from me because I love everything about it except that it can serve as one of those books that makes kids who weren’t thinking about being nervous or worried about pre-school …well… a bit nervous and worried (?)The illustrations are cute and the rhyming text is fun. My 3.5yo was off to preschool the day after reading this and I asked him which kid on the page he identified with and he did pick the boy the story is about — the one who is scared. I know my son doesn’t like new things (more so than even most kids) so I was find with this book. But if your child is not one to worry over preschool don’t get it.Also, I do feel the examples it gave about what would happen in school were quite contemporary. If I recall correctly, there was even a decent amount of diversity in skin tones, hair colors, names, etc. And a male pre-school teacher … which my son has, so yay!
