Customers say

Customers find the security camera’s tracking features work well and appreciate its picture quality, with one customer noting it can see through tinted car windows. The camera is easy to set up and offers good value for money. However, the tilt angle receives mixed feedback, with several customers noting it’s fixed rather than adjustable.

    Tapo C246D Dual Camera
I love this camera because it can actually see through my very tinted car windows at night with very low lighting and no IR or spotlight. Being able to place the camera so it sees through opposite car windows rocks! The auto tracking is much better compared to the Tapo 210. Lots of nice detection options and for me they all work great, as does the ability to tag and tap to zoom. Excellent camera for the price. It connects easily to my wifi from 100ft away to apt. parking lot. It runs at least 12 hrs on 5volt power bank. The option to see dual or single view is great if you need to snap stills off the recorded video. Only down side is its still blurry through window on zoom trying to get facial features at night in very low light from 5 feet away. I’m sure I would need to spend much more for that. Overall for me, this camera is a 10 out of 10.

    Amazing camera.
Wide angle main camera.Tilt camera smooth programmableAs soon as someone comes in the wide view, the tilt camera will follow them and zoom in without standing quality. It has like a sound enhancement. You can hear people talk clearly from a far distance.

8 out of 10 good , but could of been perfect
Camera is pretty good a couple of things could make it perfect.ProsGood price for what you get, stationary camera and a pan and tiltNo complaints on the picture.night vision not as good as the c325wb that this replaced 325 has ColorPro which is better but this camera is decent.Tracking works well and I like how the fixed camera communicates to the pt camera to track somthing out of the pt’s view.Easy setup as with all tapo cameras.I use rtsp stream to my synology nas to record, no issues.ConsWifi only, no ethernet. For stability and security wired connection is always better. It’s disapointing they moved away from having this option, as it was available on previous cameras. As with all tapo cameras there is no power over ethernet option even the older models that have ethernet port don’t have this. It’s unfortunate as it would make install very simple and cleaner.Power cord could be longer for outdoor installs. The usb c end is designed to help keep water out and is a 90 degree which is good but if you use a standard 90 degree usb extension you may have issues with water and the usb port in extreme weather. A good solution is to use the wyze 20ft extension cable , it’s a usb A type extension cable with cover. You can use that combined with the oem tapo cable to get more lenth and keep it waterproof.Tapo should offer these extension cables instead of having to buy from a competitor.Overall I give an 8 out of 10. Pretty good but could of been perfect with a few tweaks, I would of gladly paid more for ethernet ability and color pro night vision. Now just waiting for h500 to be available on Amazon canada so I can give that a try 🙂

    Powerful combo!
Great combo especially with all the smart detection and tracking features that are NOT locked behind paywalls. The stationary camera has a nice wide view. I do wish the zoom lens was stronger or you could swap out lenses for stronger ones, but my use case is a bit more than most. It still works great looking out over large horse pastures. I am also running these (2) on a small solar setup with no problems. Image quality is great, I’ve even taken some snapshots from the cam. Low light sunset pic for example. Really happy with the value you get with Tapo and being able to use the cameras full functionality without subscriptions.

Tapo Camera Review: A Mixed Experience
I own several security cameras, including a few Tapo models. TP-Link’s Tapo/Kasa line offers excellent value, and their infrastructure is top-notch. A major draw for me is their AI detection, which doesn’t require recurring fees, making them ideal for specific scenarios. However, after a few days of use, this particular Tapo camera has been a disappointment.Setup was as straightforward as with any other Tapo device: simply download the app, select your device, and follow the on-screen instructions. Mounting was also easy; the included mount is well-designed, requiring only a screwdriver and possibly a drill.A significant drawback is the fixed camera tilt angle, which is only 20 degrees. This often results in recording too much sky and not enough ground, where most of the action I’m interested in occurs. I would prefer the camera to be angled further downwards. The camera’s tracking ability is impressive; it does an excellent job following movement, and its “watching” effect is quite unnerving, which is exactly what I wanted.Unfortunately, the AI detection on the moving camera is largely ineffective. While it offers the option to define a detection area, this area is only valid for the current view and becomes irrelevant once the camera moves. To effectively use AI detection, you would need to disable the camera’s movement, essentially treating it as a second fixed camera.AI detection on the fixed camera also presents issues, frequently triggering false alarms. Although there’s an option to “reclassify” mis-triggers, the choices are limited. For example, a spider near the camera at night was detected as a person. The “no event” reclassification option consistently fails, leaving “motion” as the only viable, albeit inaccurate, choice. The app suggests this action improves the camera’s performance, but time will tell. Hopefully, they will either fix the “no event” option or introduce more appropriate labels like “lighting change,” “insects,” “leaves,” or a general “other.”It’s worth noting that my older Tapo C420 battery-operated cameras rarely mis-trigger, though they occasionally fail to wake up and record when expected.Another limitation is the lack of 24/7 recording. I assumed that since it’s a wired camera with local SD card storage, it would offer continuous loop recording, similar to my Wyze cameras. This isn’t the case. The closest alternative is using motion as a trigger, which theoretically records any significant event. While this might suffice, continuous loop recording would be more beneficial for my needs.Notifications have also been a struggle. My wife and I share access to the camera app, and we’re both sensitive to excessive alerts. Notifications need to be reasonably accurate to be useful. In a security camera, that means nearly 100%.Overall, despite getting a good deal on it, I’m not entirely satisfied with this camera. I’d advise proceeding with caution if you’re considering purchasing it.
