THE INSTANT #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING SERIES
Once Upon a Time meets The Office in Hannah Nicole Maehrer’s laugh-out-loud viral TikTok series turned novel, about the sunshine assistant to an Evil Villain…and their unexpected romance.
REWARD OFFERED: Apprentice to The Villain wanted for treason (light), magical property damage (alleged), and one incident involving a weaponized scone (accurate). Frequently seen with a grumpy frog (crowned, judgmental). Answers to “Evie” or “Stop that.”
Evie Sage didn’t mean to become the right-hand woman to the kingdom’s most terrifying villain. One minute, she was applying for an entry-level position that promised “light paperwork and occasional beheadings,” and the next, she was knee-deep in magical mayhem, murder plots, and an entirely inappropriate crush on her brooding, sharp-jawed, walking disaster of a boss.
Now, with a magical prophecy unraveling, assassins showing up in the break room, and a suspicious amount of frogs wearing crowns, Evie has to figure out how to survive her job without setting the kingdom on fire―or her dignity, which is hanging by a very sarcastic thread.
Being evil-adjacent was never part of the five-year plan. But then again…neither was falling for The Villain.
A magical office comedy with grumpy bosses, snarky frogs, and definitely-not-feelings.
The Assistant and the Villain series is best enjoyed in order.

    Loved it ❤️
    – Light spoilers ahead-Just finished the Kindle version today. She does it again ❤️🐸 🌪️I was worried that there wouldn’t be as much of the office dynamic/comedy in this book or that the writing style would change. I’m glad to say that the tone has been consistent through all 3 books and this one was just as hilarious with just as many shenanigans as the first two! This book was AMAZING and it has me extra excited for the next installment— I devoured it in a day!I’m glad we got to see more of Becky in this one, as well as exploring more of the Villain’s family dynamic with his sister, friends, etc. Kingsley plays a more central role in this book and was THE BEST comic relief! The slow burn between Trystan and Evie was doing it’s job in this one! It was infuriating at times, but in a kick your feet and giggle sort of way. There were a lot of tense but also a lot of sweet moments that still have me rooting for them as one of my top book couples ever!Lastly, there was yet another cliffhanger at the end of this book—always well done. I felt like I could see this one coming, but there was a twist to it I couldn’t figure out, so I’m glad to be pleasantly surprised! All in all, five stars. Waited a year for this book and finished a little too quickly— and so the long wait begins anew for book 4!

I Was So Excited For This, then The Cliffhanger Destroyed My Joy!
I loved book 1 and have been waiting to read book 2 until (What I Thought Was The final) book 3 came out. Both of the subsequent books included the clever humor and witty banter that I loved in book one, but the plot meanders all over and drags out the star-crossed lovers so much that I am getting tired. Then, the cliffhanger! If I’d known it wasn’t the end, I would have waited, and I wouldn’t be feeling angry right now. The description of these books says there will be 3 books, but the story is unfinished and only hints at another. Because of that, I feel like giving this only 3 stars. It deserves all 5 stars, though, because it really is quite a wonderful story, but I’m just angry about the misleading leads I read about it. So disappointed about the non-ending, yet still really want to see this story through till the end…ok. I’m going to give it 5 stars but really, really hope Ms. Maehrer gives us a happy ending soon!

    A Cliffhanger? Really?
How can Hannah end the book like that?!? It’s not a horrible cliffhanger, but IT’S STILL A CLIFFHANGER!! Although this book was not as funny as the previous books, it still had scenes and lines that had my cracking up randomly in public. There were scenes that I was so relieved FINALLY happened! And then there was the end, THE END!! Where mysteries are answered, everything is upside down and inside out, and the end!!! Sigh, this is why I don’t read unfinished series. This ending, right here is the reason! Anyways, 5 stars!

    Good but…
I love this book and the premise of this series. I was sad to see it’s a four parter and honestly disappointed. This one dragged for me. I found myself skipping ahead. I feel like the events of 2 and 3 could have been combined and well, streamlined a bit. Some of it is getting repetitive. I’ll mark my Google calendar for the next one release of course.

    Worth the Wait!
I finished in 1 day & can’t wait for the next book! I don’t want to say more & give anything away but jam packed with action, romance, & fun!

  6. Tricia

just as good as I expected.
While some twists I saw coming the way there was still filled with fun and laughter. Well done, can’t wait for the next book.

    too many things
I love this series. And then we get to book 3. I understand what the author was trying to accomplish; however, there was too much going on. Even the characters themselves didn’t seem to act consistently (unless they were meant to act in consistently in which case things got even more confusing). Obviously there’s going to be a book 4– I think that the author could’ve waited to develop one or two of the storylines and book 4 and still have everything come out in the place that it should. The book wasn’t horrible by any stretch of the imagination but it was very chaotic and not in a fun roller coaster way— more in a “ perhaps we need to edit this down and move a few things to book 4” kind of way.
